ABOUT ME
A realistic dreamworld, in which vision and fact touch upon each other. Illusions, illustries. Mystically realistic pictures abundant in contradictory layering and realism. That is what I create, triggered by my experience both as a visual artist and foster mom.
My name is Maron Hilverda, I am a visual artist. From my studio based in Zelhem, The Netherlands, I travel the world with husband and children. I am deeply fascinated by history, philosophy, and mankind’s beautiful layering and inner contradictions. A quarter of a century’s craftsmanship and motherhood have left deep marks, both within my soul and creations. Those who dare face the frustration or taste the bittersweet pain of unfulfilled desires will encounter themselves within my work…
Consciously using cynicism, humor and irony. That is my working method. Driven. By what? Call it postmodern Sehnsucht, or figurative escapism. Symbolism and figuration help me and my work’s beholder to get past the familiar reality, and to approach a perhaps even stronger reality: that of deep longing, a morbid desire for the tiniest speck of Truth. This rears its head in feverish flurries. Within people, within our society. A tremendous desire for something hard to grasp… This is reflected by my work, and people are touched by it.
Approachable
Reciprocity. Essential to me. I love to exhibit my work. When my art stands at the ready in my workshop, it is finished only for 50%. The other 50% appear as it enters the world, gets viewed and causes effect. Standing next to my work, I often have great conversations with people. This adds value to it, as well. The work is doing its job, but I am, too.
My work isn’t so much accessible as approachable. People tell me it touches them in an incredible way, once they surrender or - nearly - entrust themselves to it. Joining in the game of color and shape. Yes, the beholder must give some input, but that is possible. Art remains a two-way process.
My hope is it will yield a wealth. Life’s essentials cannot be put into words, and are often hard to depict as well. People will draw the main themes from my art, making words superfluous, as the painting renders them implicit.
